Rooney Calls Time on Illustrious Career

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United's all-time leading scorer and former England captain, has announced his retirement from professional football.

The 35-year-old forward has been playing for Derby County in the Championship since 2020. He made the announcement in a statement on his website, saying that it was "time to hang up my boots".

Rooney, who was born in Croxteth, Liverpool, began his career with Everton before joining Manchester United in 2004. He spent 13 years at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles, one Champions League, one FA Cup, and three League Cups.

He also scored 53 goals for England in 120 appearances, making him the country's all-time leading goalscorer.
